UUGH the drift
Okay, so after reaching round 5 I realized that I wasn’t replenishing The Drift, or the three cards that can be chosen vs blindly choosing the top fate card at the beginning of each turn. So, the questions that popped up were, 1) Is the drift really necessary? 2) Could we turn it into a players ability? 3) When does the drift refill?
Okay, so I like the drift for thematic reasons, the idea of having a choice and some agency. So Keeping that. BUT I think I’ll update the “Quick Start/ First Journey” aka “easy mode” so that it doesn’t use the drift.
Need to make the following updates:
1. Rulebook Entry: Game Setup & Phase 1 (The Drift)
The Drift
Place 3 cards face-up adjacent to the Fate Deck to form The Drift.
Immediate Refill: Whenever any Traveler drafts a card from The Drift during Phase 1, immediately draw the top card from the Fate Deck to replace it, maintaining a baseline of 3 face-up cards at all times.
The Elder Override: The Devoted Elder may temporarily expand The Drift to a 4th slot when using their archetype ability.
2. Player Board Entry: The Devoted Elder
ARCHETYPE: The Devoted Elder
SPECIAL ABILITY: A Lifetime of Wisdom
Whenever you play or discard an Action Card, you may place it face-up into The Drift as a 4th bonus slot instead of sending it to the standard discard pile.
Reward: When another Traveler drafts your card from The Drift during Phase 1 of their turn, gain 1 Hope. (The Drift then returns to its standard 3-card limit.)
